You are my Kin 260 P by Zorias You are my Kin 260 P by Zorias
Piece # 260 "You are my Kin"
A Zoria's Creation. Krista DeSelms ©2013

A man at my Mother's work was recently diagnosed with a fatal disease, they say he will not last through the summer. They are having an auction to raise money for his family, for bills and anything else they may need. He has a young daughter and a wife who will both miss him. I will be donating this pendant and its matching earrings to the auction, I hope it helps, even if it's just a tiny bit. I've never met this man, I don't think my Mother has either, but I wish his last months to be the best they can, and I wish the daughter and wife wonderful moments to make memories to cherish through the rest of their lives.

Garnet and Pearls wrapped in square and twisted Copper wire.

Matching earrings here:

Garnets are a very widely known gemstone. Most often a reddish brown color garnets are able to span almost any color when they absorb different materials. These stones are a very hard stone, meaning that it’s a great stone for jewelry as it can encounter and withstand a certain amount abuse. Garnets have been around and known to man-kind so long that they are even mentioned in the Bible when Noah uses a Garnet lantern to guide the arch. Garnets are generally hard to tell if they are authentic or not, but there are two ways you can check on your own. The first is to look at the garnet in natural and artificial light, the garnet should change color, either slightly or drastically. The other is not fool proof, but most garnets are somewhat magnetic, not all but most. So you can check if the garnet is magnetic.

A Pearl is a hard object made in the soft tissues of a shelled mollusk. Pearls are generally made up of calcium carbonate in the form of the mineral aragonite. The aragonite is held together by a horn-like compound called conchiolin. The Pearl is formed over time when an irritant is introduced to the mollusk or oyster and the organism covers the irritant in the aragonite and conchiolin compounds. The thinner the layers the more metallic and lushes the pearl will be. The most sought after pearls are wild, perfectly round pearls. Though most pearls sold today are cultured pearls, meaning they are still made within a mollusk or oyster, but that the irritant that starts the pearl being made is started by man, these are still considered real. There are many fake pearls out on the market, but generally lack luster and look plastic like.

Copper is pure metallic element that is malleable and has a warm brown tone. Some people believe that wearing Copper can help with the pain and stiffness of Arthritis, though it has not been scientifically proven.

Yes, I do custom work.
